The Orwell town board will hold a special meeting on Monday, January 31, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. at the Orwell Town Hall, 1999 County Route 2, Orwell, New York, for the purpose of discussing the town water system and nitrates, and any other such business as may be properly brought before the board.
The public is welcome to attend this meeting.
The town of Orwell received notice that the sample collected at the town hall on January 20, 2022 showed nitrate levels in excess of the nitrate standard. Nitrates in drinking water is a serious health concern for infants less that six months old.

The town of Orwell has issued two emergency declarations, on September 8 and October 14, 2020, relating to drought conditions in the town:
TOWN OF ORWELL WATER DISTRICT: Due to the extended dry spell we need everyone to conserve water as much as possible. Please don’t wash your car, water your lawn, fill your pool, etc. until further notice. Thank you for your cooperation!
